I upgraded my Kindle Fire which I loved but it had its problems. It was sluggish, especially after continued use, the web browsing and email experience was terrible, and the volume and brightness controls were difficult to use. The upgraded Fire takes care of all these problems - it's a lot faster, the sound is great, and resolution is fantastic, especially for books. I don't even mind the ads, honestly. The home screen offers already got me a $5 MP3 credit and a $10 general credit...I hope it'll eventually link up with Amazon Local Deals. And the carousel deals are even fine, as I kind of like having suggestions based on what I'm reading, watching, and playing.
But performance is clutch here, and now that Silk and Email are actually usable, this becomes a pretty damn good tablet. The HDMI out (so I can pipe it to my TVs) and bluetooth (so I can link up a keyboard) make this a portable set-top box and bar-friendly writing machine, respectively. Hulu+, Amazon Instant, and Netflix - perfect for a family that canceled cable. I just hope they get MLB.tv soon. And X-Ray is pretty great for movies and even for books with large casts of characters (although it would be great if there were some way to recall scenes in books...although I'm not really sure how that'd be done).
It's a great $200 purchase and a great purchase, period. Very happy with it so far.
I owned the previous fire and only complaint i had was the lagginess. This model not only upped the ram but also the processor. This is not even counting the amazing Retina like display it comes with too. Everything just looks so brilliant and vivid, especially the magazines. Those somehow on the older Fire, it was just not cutting it. Videos? Wow even better. If you owned the 1st gen and debating whether to get it or not, DO IT! you wont regret it. Im sure the cheaper 159.99 version boost in speed also is nice, but the screen HD display is a winner for me hands down. Its true, the glare is very minimal and fingerprints aren't even a problem either. The battery last a super long time and its very hand friendly as opposed to a bigger sized Ipad. The promotions ads also aren't even a big thing and i almost paid to get rid of them, but they are not a issue at all. Also, I bought mine at Best Buy so you can even check it out in person if you really need to be sold on it.

You have to pay extra for that stupid charging adapter that should have came with it in the first place. Charging it with the cable on a PC will drive you nuts as it take for ever to completely charge. Okay, they way i managed to charge it fast and not pay for that adapter.....USE YOUR APPLE PRODUCT CHARGING PIECE!!! It fits and works with no problems. And since most people have iphones, then you are in luck. Otherwise you have to invest in that $20 part.
Aside from this little thing, its an amazing product hands down, and a must own upgrade over the previous Fire!
